SINGAPORE – Two more hawking centers and 10 other cafes have opened up to groups of up to five people vaccinated for dinner.
The hawking centers are Tampines Round Market & Food Center and Taman Jurong Food Center, while cafes include Chuan Kee F&B in Lower Delta Road and Hunger House in Tagore Lane.
Another 19 hawker centers are expected to do so by next Monday (November 29), bringing the total to 32 hawker centers.
By next Tuesday, the remaining hawker centers are expected to have similar entry controls in place so that five people can eat together, the National Environment Agency (NEA) website said.
The expansion comes as the NEA and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) gradually roll out measures in food establishments to facilitate differentiated vaccination rules.
Minister of State for Sustainability and Environment Amy Khor said on Facebook on Thursday that 17 cafes can now accommodate groups of up to five people vaccinated.
A first batch of 11 hawking centers and seven cafes began allowing meals for groups of up to five on Tuesday.
Dr Khor said: “We are actively consulting with hawker associations and working with city councils and NEA appointed operators to help the remaining hawker centers gradually join by the end of November.
“I also hope that more cafe operators put the necessary measures in place, so that groups of up to five fully vaccinated people can dine on their premises.”
She said vaccination checks have generally gone smoothly at two locations she visited this week – the Bedok Food Center and Qi Xiang Cafe in Upper Serangoon Road – with diners proactively showing their vaccination status. at the point of entry.
The relaxed dining rules come after nearly two months of stabilization measures that have limited meals in hawking centers and cafes to couples.
Fully vaccinated people or those eligible to dine at hawking centers will receive an identification sticker, while those who are not or partially vaccinated will only be able to purchase food to take out.
Eligible people include children aged 12 and under and people who have recovered from Covid-19.
To be eligible, café and hawker center operators must control access to their premises by cordoning off areas and having dedicated entry points.
At points of entry, they should check the immunization status of all clients and differentiate those who are fully immunized and who dine there.
