Substation II was established in 1975 by Mr. Dominic Ruffalo. The subs, sandwiches, grinders or whatever customers chose to call them had long been famous in the northeast where Mr. Ruffalo was originally from. He was amazed at the completion of his first try and an unpretentious submarine sandwich restaurant. He decided to introduce them to the south when he opened his first restaurant, including The Sub Station, in Sumter, South Carolina. He took with him an abundance of encounters and knowledge in the restaurant business.
Today, Substation II has approximately 40 locations spread across 5 southeastern states. With the ingredients for Sub Station II’s success and a renewed corporate team, it is just beginning to take a direction that will certainly make it one of the main sub-sandwich obligations going forward.

âThis is my favorite sub sandwich in the area. Today was my third visit this month. I usually get the big spicy Italian sub and the consistency of their sandwiches is perfect. I know when I go back my sandwich will be exactly the same as last time. They are extremely fast and efficient and get people their sandwiches in just minutes and are always friendly no matter how busy they are. If you haven’t had one of their subs, you’re definitely missing out. – Wayne B.
