‘Everything hits you at once’: Brooklyn Park restaurant, wedding venue trying to double its workforce

Business inside the Brooklyn Restaurant and Bar at the Edinburgh golf course in the United States has resumed. And it’s about to get even busier.

“As we prepare for next season, we’re seeing a massive influx of people who want to get out,” Brooklyn general manager James Wallenberg said.

Wallenberg has a pretty simple answer to sum up the current state of affairs.

“Were busy. I’m very busy,” he said.

That’s a good problem to have with a COVID-19 pandemic being pushed closer to the rearview mirror. But it also comes from knowing that everyone is coming back at the same time.

“Everything hits you at once. We’re trying to staff and be ready to deal with it as much as we can, some challenges there, but we’re definitely overcoming them,” Wallenberg said.

Not only has business at the restaurant picked up, but requests for the venue’s two large banquet halls have also picked up. Wallenberg estimated that the Brooklyn Park site has nearly 100 weddings booked this summer.

“All the weddings that have been postponed for the past two years that are all happening now,” he said. “More new people getting married.”

Wallenberg also mentioned the return of more corporate events, leading to significant demand for additional staff.

The Brooklyn is looking to double down on its restaurant and catering staff

Bartender Madi Corneil says she is delighted to see familiar faces returning to the restaurant.

“To see all the regulars again is really nice,” said Corneil.

Those customers include Brian Siverson-Hall, who stopped by Brooklyn on Tuesday for lunch.

“I love how they revamped the whole space, made it a beautiful space to come to. The staff are amazing, they’re always friendly when you’re here,” Siverson-Hall said.

But Wallenberg knows he could use a few extra workers like Corneil to help out. The restaurant and catering portion of the business currently has approximately 20 employees. Wallenberg said the site could really use nearly double that figure.

“We’re looking for front desk staff, back staff, servers, bartenders, people to help run customer service,” he said.

The venue has been operated by D’Amico & Partners for three years.

“The staff here is very good,” Wallenberg said. “We have all been together for three years. We’ve had very little turnover here. It’s a great team to work with. D’Amico as a whole is an excellent company.

Also adding to the spring hiring rush, if the weather cooperates, the Edinburgh golf course in the United States could open in two weeks.
