From Golf Course to Angus Farm to Wedding Venue

Hammack Hills in Amma will host an open house this month

When purchasing the Sandy Brea Golf Course in Amma, West Virginia, Robert and Glenna Hammack did not envision a wedding and event venue. The Hammacks were and still are farmers, raising and caring for Black Angus cattle.

The Hammacks are parents to two sons. Their youngest, Andrew, was attending Marshall University, and they made a deal with him that if he was on the dean’s list, they would pay for any summer vacation he chose. After the freshman year of college, Andrew decided to go to Belarus for the summer, where he reminisced about his childhood summers when his parents were hosting children from Belarus for medical care in the states due nuclear fallout. The Hammack’s and their church have hosted approximately 25-30 children from Belarus over many years.

Asked about his trip, Andrew said he had a great time and would like to return the following summer. Making the dean’s list the following year, the Hammacks held their end of the bargain and he returned. When he returned to the United States after this visit, Andrew informed his parents that he was now engaged. It turns out there were several restrictive marriage laws overseas, so Andrew and his fiancée only had 30 days from approval to wed. The hunt was therefore on for a place and all the things to organize a wedding.

While visiting the farm one afternoon, Andrew had the idea of getting married in the barn. However, there were a few issues. The barn had a dirt floor, wasn’t finished, and the wedding was a month away. The family got to thinking and with hard work the barn was finished and the wedding took place on the family farm.

That year, the Hammacks held a number of weddings for church members, family, and friends. This led to the construction of a second building to meet growing demand over the next few years. So now, nestled in the Amma Hills, Hammack Hills offers a beautiful location for your next wedding or event. Hammack Hills now offers two wedding venues, both stylish and fully equipped with heating/air conditioning, kitchens and more.

This venue has recently undergone a renovation and is currently hosting an open house to unveil the newly renovated clubhouse. This event will take place on July 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with staff present to answer any questions about the property. There will also be a few select vendors including Burns Exposures, Bowlz Brother BBQ and Valley Cakes and Catering, to name a few.

You can reach Hammack Hills at 304-546-6101 or with any questions.
