Station Casinos is building a new Wildfire-branded site in downtown Las Vegas

Casino and hotel company Station casinos is building a new project in downtown Las Vegas. It comes as work is already underway on another venture in the Las Vegas Valley – the $750 million Durango Casino and Resortbut this new, and so far unnamed, project is expected to be much smaller.

According to a Las Vegas Review-Journal report, work teams are now building a Fires casino on Fremont Street, just south of Charleston Boulevard in downtown. City records recovered by the cited source show the one-story project will span over 21,000 square feet and sit on 5 acres of land.

Station, subsidiary of Red Rock Resorts, already operates 10 Wildfire-branded casinos, including seven in Henderson. These are generally heavy on slots and video poker with casual dining options, mostly aimed at locals.. In a statement Friday, the company said it was “excited to bring a new Wildfire casino with new amenities to local residents in downtown Las Vegas.”

“As the site is under construction, we will have more details in the coming weeks,” Station Casinos added. So far it is known that the project will occupy part of the former Castaways site, which the company bought in 2004: the hotel had been closed for months when Station acquired it, and it was eventually demolished.

Amador Bengochea, owner of Bentar Development, which purchased 25 acres of the site in Station in 2018, has been breaking ground for many constructions. He developed a 344-unit apartment complex, a mini-storage facility, and a building that the Southern Nevada Health District plans to occupy. He confirmed he was building Wildfire for Station as a contractoraccording Review-Journal.

Station already owns other parcels around southern Nevada. Among them is the plot where the Durango hotel-casino currently under construction will sit.. The much larger site will be developed on approximately 50 acres, with an adjoining 21 acres earmarked for sale. The station first acquired the site about two decades ago, but opened the station this year.

The proposed Rhodes Ranch complex is to be built along Durango Drive adjacent to the Las Vegas Ring Road. Station first bought the property from promoter Jim Rhodes in 2000and the plans were originally announced four years after the site was acquired, but the process faced opposition and delays along the way, including the Great Recession of 2007.

The Durango project is expected to span approximately 533,000 square feet and feature over 73,000 square feet of casino space and a sportsbook. It will also include more than 200 hotel rooms, restaurants, meeting space, and more. The resort’s casinos launched the project in March, which should be completed by the end of 2023.

In a recent conference call, company officials said they were looking to double Station’s presence in the valley and hinted that other major stations could follow. The company has owned land for years with no visible activity, including about 300 acres in southern Nevada.

Parent Red Rock Resorts has long been a dominant player in the local market, and these recent moves would help cement that status.. The Southwest Las Vegas area is one the company has called “underserved” in the past.
