Streamlined control system and hardware design

Based in Rivervale, Western Australia, Nonlinear Solutions is an industrial automation, robotics and engineering company catering to Industry 4.0 applications in mining, oil and gas, defense and the making.

Their vision is to create greater efficiency in their customers’ machine processes, while allowing them to efficiently connect with external services and other equipment.

According to director Isaac Monteath, this includes delivering smart products to different types of applications in a competitive time frame and at an effective price.

“The concept for the company really came about from working in this industry and being frustrated with the lack of solutions available,” he explains. “It’s important for us to work with a platform that we trust and that is flexible enough that we can offer these kinds of out-of-the-box alternatives.”

Partnership with industry leading control technology provider Beckhoff Automation, Nonlinear Solutions builds end-to-end systems that incorporate scalable software and integration with IoT infrastructure. They have the resources to facilitate design concepts, CAD modeling, manufacturing, and rapid prototyping using large-scale 3D printers.

By using the TwinCAT portfolio, they are able to integrate real-time control for PC-based systems, benefiting from its advanced features and flexible execution environment, Monteath explains.

“User experience and interface design are important, and Beckhoff is really leading the way in providing customers with an intuitive product. We also benefit from being able to work closely with their excellent support team.

The TwinCAT 3 builds on previous iterations of Beckhoff’s automation technology and is the latest suite of control system components. It is a highly modular offering that can be designed to meet particular application requirements, such as motion control, vision, processing or measurement functions.

“By bringing together separate processes into a single system, it reduces the hardware footprint inside the cabinet and also improves reliability,” says Monteath. “The robust code results in a more efficient machine, and the single codebase is easier to maintain. Using Beckhoff’s product makes life much easier for us as software developers.

In addition to high-quality industrial automation and control cabinet manufacturing, Nonlinear Solutions specializes in big data analysis and prediction models, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning . From voice and gesture recognition to digital mapping of rooms and buildings, they usher in a new era of automation in the Australian market, ensuring a solid software foundation with key communication concepts from Beckhoff.

“We really wanted to bring modern automation technology to our customers,” says Jacob Monteath, business development manager. “Beckhoff provided us with a platform that made it easy to integrate with physical components. It’s a simple and smart solution that makes the process as stable as possible.
